01/31/2012 - Champaign, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - With his 400th career win in the books, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo now sets his sights on the next opponent, who in this case is fellow Big Ten Conference member Illinois tonight at Assembly Hall.
The Spartans, ranked ninth in the most recent poll, are enjoying a two-game win streak after losing two in a row to the likes of Northwestern and nationally-ranked Michigan earlier this month. Six nights ago, the Spartans dumped Minnesota at home rather easily, 68-52, giving Izzo his landmark victory in his 17th season of coaching. Following tonight's game, MSU gets a shot at redemption against the Wolverines on February 5 in East Lansing.
As for the Fighting Illini, they lost only three times through the first 19 games of 2011-12, but the squad has hit a number of bumps in the road and is now dealing with a three-game slide that has Illinois displaying a record of 4-4 in conference, which has the program stuck in the middle of the standings. Over the weekend, the Illini went to overtime against Minnesota and came out on the short end of a 77-72 final.
With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, it is deadlocked at 55-55 after they split their two matchups a season ago. When it comes to games played in Champaign, the Illini have a distinct 36-17 advantage.
Becoming just the fourth head coach to win his 400th career game with a Big Ten program, Izzo leaned on Draymond Green to get the job done as he led the Spartans in scoring (22 points), rebound (14) and assists (six) versus Minnesota last week. Branden Dawson accounted for another 16 points and blocked five shots for the hosts as they shot 54.2 percent from the floor in over to combat just 2-of-11 accuracy behind the three-point line and 14-of-23 at the free-throw line. Green leads the team in scoring overall on the season with his 15.3 ppg, shooting 45.2 percent from the floor along the way. Green is also the top man on the glass for the group with his 10.4 rpg and his 77 assists are second only to Keith Appling (12.3 ppg) who has handed out 83. But more than anything, it is the defense for the Spartans that has kept them riding high this season, limiting the opposition to just 60.2 ppg based on those foes converting just 38.0 percent from the field and 29.7 percent beyond the arc.
Brandon Paul erupted for another big game, this time dropping 28 points on Minnesota at Williams Arena, but he needed much more support in order to get the Illini over the hump. Paul also cleared nine rebounds and made three blocked shots, which for the most part offset his six turnovers, but still the team as a whole was guilty of 16 miscues and ended up converting a mere 3- of-21 shots from three-point range. Before fouling out, Meyers Leonard accounted for 17 points, 13 boards and four blocks, but no one else on the team made more than three field goals and the contribution from the bench was minimal. Overall this season Paul is producing 14.6 ppg, but when it comes to conference play he has bumped that number up considerably to 20.0 ppg which is one of the top averages in the league. Leonard (13.4 ppg), a 57.7 percent shooter from the floor on the season, has been planting himself in the paint in order to come up with eight rebounds per game and alter quite a number of shots from opponents.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets
With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
Just because it is the All-Star break doesn’t mean that you can’t bet on NBA hoops this weekend. Be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com to bet on who you think will cut down the nets this July.
